Non-Surgical Thread Lifts

A thread lift involves the use of temporary sutures to produce a subtle but visible lift in the skin around the face. Instead of surgically lifting loose facial tissues, portions of the facial skin are resuspended via the threads. This has the effect of pulling back the skin and tightening the face. This is ideal to:

  • Lift and reposition sagging skin on the face
  • Restore the contour of the cheeks
  • Softening and lifting nasolabial folds and jowls
  • Re-establish a natural and youthful facial shape
  • Re-establish a stronger jawline
  • Improve skin quality.

The recovery time is minimal compared to traditional facelift surgery, with low risk for scarring and bruising.

Dr Bill Lyon uses a number of different types of thread depending on what he feels is most suitable for the situation. He is widely experienced in these threads and has been involved with teaching and organising guidelines for the use of threads in Asia.

Some possible complications and risks associated with non-surgical thread lift surgery may include:

  • Outcome not up to expectations – This is a common complaint, which is why most surgeons caution their patients ahead of time about the limited or subtle enhancements they can expect from thread lifts. Results can vary greatly from patient to patient. Dr Lyon is experienced and will give you what he feels are realistic expectations for you.
  • Bruising and swelling may occur immediately after the procedure – This is natural, and you can expect it to resolve on its own. Severe swelling should be reported to your surgeon immediately as this could be due to an infection.
  • Infections are rare – If excessive levels of fluid accumulate, you may need surgical drainage.
  • Visible threads – In patients with thin skin, the threads may become visible, and this is why Dr Lyon uses a range of threads and tailors the approach  to you.
  • Numbness or lack of sensitivity – These sensations will usually disappear within weeks but contact your surgeon if they persist.

What makes a good thread lift candidate?

  • You can be a good candidates as long as their skin has not become too lax or you aren’t asking the thread to lift excessively. An experienced surgeon like Dr Lyon can help you determine whether you are or not and what the outcome could be.
  • You want to improve your looks by enhancing and highlighting features lost to premature ageing, improving sagging or loose skin on your face and neck.
  • The changes that have occurred in your face and neck are not serious enough to warrant a face or neck lift.
  • You are not expecting dramatic changes, but subtle ones.
  • You do not have the time or the need to undergo a facelift at this time but can afford to spend a few days recovering from procedure.

Does a thread lift procedure hurt?

There will be some level of discomfort, swelling and bruising around the area after the procedure. This will gradually subside and generally doesn’t last more than 24 hrs.
