Brachioplasty / Arm Lift

Brachioplasty (or arm lift) involves an incision in the armpit and down along the inside of the arm, through which excess skin and fat are removed. Because the arm is a cylinder, tightening the skin on the inner arm tightens the skin all the way around the arm. Brachioplasty is often combined with arm liposuction to remove excess fat and further improve the contour. It is effective for:

  • Removing loose or saggy skin on the underside of the arms due to weight loss, age or hereditary factors
  • Eliminating pockets of excess, stubborn fat
  • Toning the upper arms
  • Contouring the shape of the arms
  • Tightening loose skin, especially after liposuction.

Some possible complications and risks associated with arm lift surgery may include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Temporary numbness around the incision sites and the inner aspect of the arm
  • Arm movement may be restricted
  • Rarely the skin may not heal, and a skin graft may be required
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scars may form.

Where will the scars be located?

Generally, incisions extend from the axilla down the inside of the arm towards the elbow and are placed in the most inconspicuous place as possible.

How quickly can I return to exercise?

Following the procedure, you should be prepared with help at home and plan for at least two to three weeks off work, with normal physical activities and exercise only being possible after at least four to six weeks.
